Tutorial Easel Card

¡Buenos dias! ¿Os gustan las easel cards? A mi la verdad es que me parecen muy resultonas, y ahora que estoy tratando de hacer más tarjetas es un formato que me gusta. En este caso además he añadido una cajita para poder guardar algún detallito o usarla para poner post it, tal y como hice en esta otra. Good morning! Do you like easel cards? I love them, and now that I'm trying to make more cards it's a design I really like to use. In this case I've added a little box, in order to keep some post it notes in it, as I had done in this previous card. Layout Charming

¡Hola! Hace poco terminé este layout para Scrapmatts, en el que además utilicé la paleta de Abril del reto Prima Pick a Product (PPP). La foto ya la había scrapeado antes, pero fue hace ya unos años y como me gusta mucho tenía ganas de volver a utilizarla en un layout más actual.
El resultado final es bastante suave, igual un poco más de color no hubiera ido mal, pero tampoco me disgusta. Me ha gustado mucho trabajar con ese turquesa y seguro que repito pronto!!

Hi there! I made this layout for Scrapmatts, and I used the palette in the Prima Pick a Product challenge for this month, it's gorgeous!! I had already scrapped this photo of one of my cats before, but it was a few years ago and I wanted to use it again and make a layout with my current style. 
The final result is a bit soft, I may should have added some more color...but I sort of like it anyway. I really enjoyed working with that pretty turquoise tone, I'll use it again for sure!

Layout "Sometimes Dreams Come True"

¡Buenos días! ¿Qué tal las vacaciones? Yo he ido a ver a mi familia y no he hecho nada de scrap, ni he visitado blogs, ni me han surgido nuevos caprichos ni nada de nada. Eso sí, tengo un par de trabajos atrasados por enseñar.

¿Os acordais de que cuando hice el sorteo comenté que me habían dado una buena noticia? Pues este layout es precisamente sobre esa noticia...¡¡me han confirmado que en otoño podré ir a Canadá unos meses a trabajar allí!! Es algo que quería hacer desde hace varios años, vivir una temporada en otro país, y por fin parece que se cumplirá. No será mucho tiempo, pero menos da una piedra :)

Para el layout he utilizado el sketch de Once Upon a Sketch. Además, el tema de este mes era "An event that changed my life" y me pareció que tenía bastante que ver. Aún no me he ido, pero desde luego que será un cambio.  Los papeles son todos de Pion Design, de las colecciones Shoreline Treasures (los azules) y Flower Frames (los amarillos).

Good morning! I've recently received some good news...I'm finishing my phd and have been allowed to travel to Canada and work on my thesis there for a few months. I've always wanted to live abroad for a while so it's a dream came true!! So when I saw this month's theme at Once Upon A Sketch (An event that changed your life) I decided to make a page abut this. 

I used two Pion Design's collections: Shoreline Treasures and Flower Frames. I wanted a blue-yellow combo, so they were perfect for this. 

El journaling está por detrás, aunque añadí unas palabras en el tag de la parte de abajo resumiendo el tema del viaje. Últimamente en todas las páginas utilizo una cartulina lisa como base para darle consistencia e intento escribir por detrás algo acerca del layout. Esto es porque tengo muy mala letra y entonces no me gusta escribir directamente en la página. Una verdadera pena, porque me gustan mucho los layouts con la historia escrita en ellos.

Journaling is behind my page, although I wrote a little bit on the tag (at the bottom of the page) summarazing the main theme of the page. Lately I've started using cardstock as a base for my layouts and writing some journaling on the back. I have an awful handwriting and don't like to write directly on my pages.

Shoreline Treasures card

¡Buenos días de lunes! Hoy traigo otra tarjeta veraniega con la colección Shoreline Treasures de Pion Design y chipboards de Scrapmatts, que ya utilicé en esta tarjeta y este layout.  Me lo he pasado en grande haciéndola porque la verdad es que los papeles y los chipboard combinaban estupendamente. Además he aprovechado para estrenar mis nuevos troqueles de círculo, que ya tenía ganas.

Good morning! I have another summer card to share, using Shoreline Treasures collection by Pion Design and Scrapmatts chipboards. I had already used these papers in this card and this layout. I've had a great time making it because the papers and the chippies went really well together. Besides, I have used used for the first tima my new circle dies.

Mis favoritos: Heather Jacob

Hoy en lugar de mostrar algún trabajo empiezo una nueva sección: artistas destacadas. A veces me ha pasado que me hablan de una scrapera que no conozco y cuando voy a su blog me encantan sus trabajos y me pregunto cómo es posible que no la hubiera conocido antes. Y otras veces ha sido al revés, le he recomendado a alguna amiga el blog de alguna scrapera y se ha quedado encantada...el caso es que creo que el talento hay que compartirlo. Y de ahí nace esta sección, cada mes hablaré de alguna de mis scraperas favoritas, a algunas seguramente ya las conoceréis pero tal vez a otras no y os sirva para encontrar nueva inspiración.

Mi primera artista destacada es Heather Jacob, a la que supongo que muchas sí conoceréis porque es una de las scraperas más famosas de la red. Tiene un estilo realmente único y diferente, con una mezcla entre grunge y romántico que me tiene enamorada. Colabora con varios equipos de diseño y han publicado sus trabajos en varias revistas, así que seguro que más de una vez habéis visto sus increíbles layouts.

No hay trabajo suyo que vea y no me deje boquiabierta, me encanta cómo utiliza el color y la forma en que sus páginas tienen un equilibrio perfecto: ni demasiado llenas ni demasiado vacías.
Aquí podéis ver algunos de sus trabajos, he seleccionado mis favoritos, pero me ha costado horrores elegir. Os aconsejo que vayais a su blog, Art and Life, porque no tiene desperdicio. Además ha tenido la amabilidad de contestar una serie de preguntas que le he hecho sobre su trabajo (a ver si se me pega algo jajajaja).

¿Cuanto tiempo llevas scrapeando?

¿Cómo describirías tu estilo? ¿Ha cambiado a lo largo del tiempo?

Mi estilo es earthy/grunge con un toque shabby chic. Sí que ha ido cambiando, ahora utilizo mucho más el distressing (efecto envejecido) y trabajo con más capas (layering), mis primeros trabajos eran más limpios y planos. Actualmente añado muchas capas y texturas. 

Tus trabajos son únicos y se reconocen fácilmente, ¿cuál dirías que es tu sello personal?

Definitivamente el cosido, las capas, el distressing y las tintas. Además trabajo mucho con gamas monocromáticas (utilizando un mismo color en distintas tonalidades).

¿Te consideras una scrapera rápida o lenta? ¿Cuanto puedes tardar en completar un layout?

mmm ¡eso puede variar mucho!A veces acabo una página muy rápido, en cuatro horas. Otras pueden llevarme varios días. De media yo diría que tardo unas 9 horas en completar un layout, incluyendo elegir la foto, los papeles, colores...Me centro siempre en la foto. 

Si no me gusta cómo me está quedando un layout lo rompo porque me he dado cuenta de que puedo trabajar en el durante horas y aún así no gustarme el resultado final.

¿Qué productos de scrap son tus "no puedo vivir sin él"?

La máquina de coser, herramientas de distressing, tintas, gesso, pinceles de buena calidad, máscaras, pasta de fibra y tijeras. 

¿Podrías compartir 3 tips de scrapbooking para los que empiezan?

-Me gusta elegir la foto primero y recrear a su  alrededor  la emoción y la historia que conlleva. 

-Decide qué colores quieres usar y crea con colores que se mezclen bien y se complementen unos a otros

-Si dudas de qué colores se complementan utiliza la rueda cromática, es una gran ayuda saber cómo funciona. Yo la estudié hace años en clase de arte y es una de esas cosas realmente útiles, una buena base para cualquier layout. 

-Recuerda no compararte nunca con otros, inspírate pero permite que tus propio estilo evolucione y crezca a medida que creas. 

-En mi opinión las técnicas de distressng y  layering no solo son interesantes y divertidas, también provocan intriga en el lector y le aportan textura y originalidad al layout. 

-La textura es una de las cosas que me encantan del scrapbooking. Mis páginas nunca caben en los álbumes...son demasiado voluminosas pero me encanta la textura. 

Today I open a monthly new section, Featured Artists. Scrapbooking arrived recently in Spain and it's getting popular really fast. Sometimes I find a new blog I didn't know and it's like...I can't believe I had not found this before!! So I thought this could happen to other spanish scrappers too, and it'd be useful to feature some of my favorite artists so that people who don't know them can find new inspiration. 

My first feature is Heather Jacob. I suppose all of you already know her and her beautiful works. She makes such amazing and unique layouts and I truly admire her talent. As you probably know, her blog is Art and Life, I love to visit it for inspiration! Besides she's been really kind and has answered a few questions about her work. She's been so kind and her tips are very useful. Thank you so much Heather! 

How long have you been scrapbooking? 
I began scrapbooking in 2003. 

How would you describe your scrapbooking style? Do you think it has changed over time? 
My style is earthy/grunge with a little shabby chic thrown in. yes my style has changed over time. Today I use Lots more distressing and layering, in the early days my work was really quite flat and neat . Now I add lots of distressing, layers and texture .

Your works are truly unique and easily recognizable, what do you think is your signature style? 
Definitely stitching, layering, distressing, and inks. I do create using monochromatic themes as well. (monochromatic is using one color in various hues )

Do you consider yourself a fast or slow scrapbooker? How long does it take you to complete a layout? 
Hmmmm ! that may vary from day to day. Sometimes a LO comes together really quickly in 4 hours. Another day I may spread it over a few days. On an average I think it would be about 9 hours to complete a LO. That includes choosing the photo, papers , colors etc. My photo is always the main focus for me 
I do tear up LO’s if I am not happy with the way it is progressing, as I find I can spend hours and still not be happy with the end result 

What are the scrapbooking products you can't live without? 
Sewing machine, distressing tool, inks, gesso, top quality paint brushes, masks, Fibre paste, scissors

Could you share 3 scrapbooking tips for newby scrapbookers? 
-I like to Choose the photo first and create around the emotion and story behind the photo.
-Decide which colors you want to use and create with colors that blend, compliment and embrace each other
-If in doubt which colors compliment each other, remember the color wheel . It is really helpful to know how the wheel works . I studied the color wheel years ago in art classes , and it is one of the really helpful things to know .A great foundation for any Layout .
-Remember to never compare yourself with others, be inspired but allow Your own style to evolve and grow as you create .
-In my opinion using layering and distressing is not only interesting and fun to do, but it creates intrigue to the reader and texture and uniqueness to the layout 
-Texture is one of the wonderful things I love in scrapbooking. My pages never fit into books these days .. they are too bulky, but I love the texture .
